For Amputees

Amputee Coalition

The best resource for amputees in the US, period. Huge amount of materials for new amputees, National Limb Loss Resource Center, support groups and peer visitors, annual conference, advocacy and policy work, and a free monthly magazine to boot.

Amplitude Magazine

Premiere semi-monthly magazine for amputees with info on the latest tech, tips, and tons of interviews with amputees. Also has its own resources for education and advocacy.

e-NABLE

My favorite nonprofit that connects amputees with engineers and hobbyist prosthetic designers to make beautiful things happen. Also, check out the Hub where all the magic happens, and join our Discord server!

My Arm

Advanced Arm Dynamics

The best upper-limb specialists in the US. Need a new prosthetic? Expect exceptional care and a beautiful device from these folks. I visited their site in Portland.

TASKA Prosthetics

Makers of the popular TASKA prosthetic hand. There are several multi-articulating hands these days, but the TASKA is by far the most durable, and (as far as I know) the only one that’s waterproof.

COAPT Complete Control

I love the myoelectric pattern recognition system that COAPT has put out with their Gen2 system. The nervous system of the bionic arm, COAPT pattern rec gives superior control and flexibility. And it’s easy!

Bionics

Open-Source Leg

Awesome project by some of my former mentors and colleagues at the University of Michigan to create a fully open-source bionic leg design that can be replicated by labs and companies across the world. Total cost is ~$28,000.

Bionics for Everyone

Pretty cool site to learn all about bionics. Sections on bionic arms, legs, gloves, exos, brain interfaces–you name it. I’d start with their section on bionic arms and hands.

OandP Library

Want to really get into the weeds on the history of prosthetics and orthotics? This archive site has medical journals, reference texts, and other literature from the last 50 years. I spent hours and hours combing through these during my own research.
